Les Cayes with a population of approximately, 46,000 residents, is Haiti's fourth largest city. It is a sleepy and laid-back kind of town. Visitors here will be hard-pressed to find a hotel, which has a satellite for US television, such as CNN. Here is a useless factoid about Les Cayes, the term "OK" is said to have originated here. The town is on the southern coast of southern claw of Haiti.
There's not too much to do in this town, but it certainly does have a warm and friendly feel to it. There are very good beaches nearby Les Cayes. As with most towns in Haiti, there is a market here and handmade goods are also available to purchase. As far as sights go, there is a monument affiliated with Uruguay there and a somewhat large and attractive cathedral.
In the way of hotels, there are two in Les Cayes that we recommend. The Le Cayenne Hotel offers decent rooms and has a swimming pool, restaurant and bar. Another lodging option is the Concorde Hotel, which has basic, but comfortable rooms with fans and bathrooms in each room. The hotel is over two buildings spread out in the gardens, rooms in the smaller buildings are brighter. The managers speak English and are quite friendly.
